GUIDE: Friday & Saturday in Petaluma
Weekend Getaway in Petaluma: A Local's Guide to the Best (and Free) Things to Do
Finally, the weekend! Whether you’re coming from the Bay Area or just looking for a local escape, Petaluma is the perfect destination for a relaxing, fun-filled getaway. The best part? There are plenty of ways to get here that are not only easy, but also free. Let’s dive into your weekend plans in Petaluma:
Getting Here: Easy and Free!
Boat – For those with their own boats, why not bring it up to the Yacht Club? It’s a beautiful and scenic way to make your way into town, and it gives you the perfect start to your weekend adventure.
Smart Train – If you prefer to leave the car at home, the Smart Train is a fantastic option. It's free for seniors, and the ride from the Bay Area offers beautiful views of the countryside.
Bus – Petaluma is easily accessible by bus, and the best part is it’s also free for seniors and anyone under 18! It’s a hassle-free and eco-friendly way to get to town.
A Local Tradition: Della Fattoria
When the weekend comes around, locals can’t help but get excited. Why? Because Della Fattoria is open for business! Della Fattoria isn’t just a bakery – it’s a Petaluma institution, famous for baking the best bread in the world. You’ll want to stop by first thing in the morning for a fresh loaf or to sit down for a delicious brunch. While you’re there, don’t forget to grab a copy of the Argus Courier, Petaluma’s local paper, to catch up on the latest happenings around town.
Paddle Down the River
After brunch, head to the river! The best way to experience Petaluma’s scenic riverfront is by getting on the water. The Floathouse has you covered if you need equipment, offering kayaks, paddle boards, and any other vessel you could possibly want (as long as it doesn’t have a massive engine). For something a little different, try Stand-Up Paddleboard Yoga, available in the spring and summer through The Yoga Post.
If you’re a dog lover, bring your furry friend along for the ride! The Floathouse allows dogs on most of their tours, so you and your pup can enjoy a relaxing paddle together. If you're lucky, you might even get the chance to experience a moonlight paddle – one of the most magical experiences Petaluma has to offer. Keep an eye out for the floating lemonade stand, which can only be accessed from the river. It’s a refreshing and fun little surprise!
After Hours in Petaluma
After you’ve wrapped up your river adventure, it’s time for a casual dinner or drinks. Head over to Croaked Goat Brewery, a local favorite that serves up delicious craft beer and quality food. They also offer a great selection of non-alcoholic drinks, so everyone can enjoy the experience. Feeling competitive? Grab a board game from their collection and challenge your friends to a friendly match.
For those looking to impress a date or treat themselves, TC Provision is the place to be. With an elevated atmosphere and fantastic food, it’s the perfect spot for a special night out.
Wrapping Up Your Weekend
As the weekend winds down, you’ll find me at one of my favorite spots in town – most likely after I close the store! Petaluma is a community where you can feel the local charm at every turn, and there’s no shortage of fun, laid-back activities to enjoy.
